Just a few minutes walk from a BTS, Shugaa (Room For Dessert) is one of the newest cafes recently opened in the trendy area of Ekkamai.
The theme of the cafe revolves around its main ingredient, sugar. Basically, the entire interior is inspired by sugar crystals and molecules, from their polygon walls and crystalline staircase to cubic light fittings. Wood material and pastel colours, flooded with an abundance of natural light, make the cafe incredibly warm and inviting.
Pictures don’t do the place justice. When you first step in, you’ll be mesmerized by how gorgeous it really is.
The trendy, polygon design cafe is extremely popular with hipsters, tourists and instagrammers (like me!), so don’t be surprised to find photographers snapping photos of models here.
Although there is a small selection of savoury meals, Shugaa is known for its creative menu and array of delicate, French style desserts and fondant cakes.
When we visited, me and Marco tried the Corn Caramel Luscious Croissant – hot croissant pudding served with corn caramel sauce, New York cheesecake, cornflakes, charcoal crumble and sea salt caramel ice cream.
Corn Caramel Luscious Croissant = 225 baht
It was so delicious! Not overly sweet as expected which I enjoyed. My only complaint? The serving was too little 🙁
We also ordered a latte each (110 baht) which came in a generous-size mug.
The second floor provides a lovely aerial view of the entire cafe’s downstairs, but is mostly a quiet area for reading and working. Sometimes it’s used for fondant workshops too.
With our laptops open and jazz music playing on repeat in the background, it was easy for us to spend a few hours here just working and relaxing. The aesthetics of the place made me not want to leave – I could’ve just admired it all day… daydreaming about how my future house should look something like this…
Although dishes at Shugaa are expensive for Bangkok standard (they charge 7% VAT), the quality is excellent and the ambiance is just exquisite.
It definitely ticks all the boxes for me and I would totally come back again. Whether you’re an interior design lover, sugar junkie or instagrammer, this is a beautiful place to spend the afternoon – just don’t forget to take at least one photo for memories!
